The Story

A very well-known variety of this popular 'cottage garden' plant. A traditional favourite for herbaceous borders and woodland walks in early summer. They prefer dappled shade. (Please note: Seeds/plants toxic if eaten.) HB - Hardy biennial. Height 90-120cm (3-4').

Growing Information

Sow March-June, flowers May-July the following year.

Sowing Information

Sow in trays or pots on a windowsill or greenhouse at approx. 20-25C (68-77F) onto a firmed, good quality, moist compost. Do not exclude light or allow to dry out (Germination 15-20 days). Transplant seedlings into trays 8cm (3") apart and grow on. Plant out in the autumn 30-45cm (12-18") apart to flower the following year. Alternatively, sow direct outside in a shallow groove, barely covering the fine seed. Thin to 15cm (6") and grow on before a final planting.
