The Story

Red and green leaves with contrasting green-and-white undersides. The colour of the red deepens as the weather becomes cooler. For use in stir fries when baby leaves or as a cooked vegetable when fully mature. Contains 50% F1 Rubi and 50% Hanakan.

F1 Rubi - Attractive red leaves (which deepen in colour in cool weather) with a contrasting green underside, which can be grown as either a babyleaf for use in stir-fries, or full size heads for use as a tasty cooked vegetable.

Hanakan - Compact, slow bolting plants with round smooth leaves and thick pure white stalks. Harvest May-December.

Growing Information

Sow March-April and again in late summer in rows 38cm (15") apart.

Sowing Information

Sow thinly direct into finely raked, warm, moist soil at a depth of 13mm (½") in rows 30cm (12") apart. Germination 6-10 days. Thin seedlings to 2.5cm (1") for picking as baby leaf, or to 15cm (6") between plants for growing to full maturity. Not recommended for transplanting. Grows best in a sunny position in rich, well prepared soil. Water freely during spells of dry weather. Sowing to Cropping: 30 days for babyleaf.
